Autism Assessment and Treatment
At Drummoyne Psychology, we provide comprehensive Autism Assessments for children, adolescents and adults in a supportive and neuro-affirming environment. Our approach recognises Autism as a natural part of human diversity, and we focus on identifying individual strengths as well as challenges.

We understand that seeking an Autism Assessment can be a significant step, and our process is designed to be respectful, empowering, and collaborative. Each assessment is tailored to the client’s unique experiences and needs, incorporating clinical interviews, standardised tools, and both client and caregiver insights. Our goal is to provide meaningful understanding and practical recommendations that support personal growth, self-acceptance, and access to appropriate supports.
If you are interested in an Autism assessment for yourself or a loved one, we invite you to reach out. We are here to guide you through the process with care and expertise.
Please note our clinic is accessible via stairs only.
The Assessment Process
Our Autism Assessments involve three scheduled appointments (usually in person). These appointments are approximately 50 minutes in length.
-
Prior to Appointment One: You will need to gather school reports, previous IQ tests or clinical assessments.
-
Appointments One and Two: You’ll complete more in-depth questionnaires, exercises and an interview will allow you to discuss many aspects of your emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. This is to establish whether the diagnostic criterion for Autism is met and identify whether other conditions are likely to be present.
-
Appointment Three: You will be provided with the outcomes of the assessment, feedback and options for support and intervention. You will be provided with a letter stating the outcome of assessment.
Other Essential Parts of the Assessment
-
You will complete standardised questionnaires between sessions.
-
You will need to identify at least two people who know you well. This includes someone who knew you as a child (e.g., parent) and someone who knows you well in your current life (e.g., partner or close friend).
-
These people will be asked to complete a standardised questionnaire or attend an interview to answer specific questions about you.
Treatment Options
Drummoyne Psychology offer evidence-based psychological intervention to support you with a diagnosis of Autism. This includes neuro-affirming, sensory-focused cognitive-behavioural therapy. Even if you are not diagnosed with Autism or the assessment was inconclusive, we will offer you the best possible support for your symptoms.
As we are a Clinical Psychology practice, we cannot prescribe medication. However, if medication is something you wish to explore, we can link you in with an appropriate prescriber.

Assessment Fees
The full cost of an Autism Assessment is $1500. This is inclusive of three appointments, questionnaires and testing, and Summary Assessment Letter. The initial appointment will incur a cost of $540 and the second and third appointment will cost $480 each.

If you are under 25 years there is a Medicare Rebate available if you have been referred by your doctor for an Autism Assessment or assessment for a complex neurodevelopmental disorder. You will need to bring this referral to your first appointment. The rebate is $96.65 for each appointment, to a maximum of 4 appointments.
The psychologist will need to review any previous school reports, employment evaluations, cognitive tests, speech/learning assessments (please bring these with you to your first appointment).
